Located two blocks away from Fremont Street, Main Street Station is one of the most popular casinos in the downtown area. The casino sits on the site of an abandoned hotel and is designed in the style of turn-of-the-century San Francisco. Although this motif has been done to death, Main Street Station somehow manages to pull it off. The casino is adorned with stained glass windows, gas lamps, replica antique chandeliers, and wrought-iron railings that, together, present an impressive atmosphere much like an old railway station. In fact, there are several unexpected decorative touches all over the place. One example is the cashier's cages, which look like bank teller cages from the Old West.
Main Street's gaming floor is spacious and rather inviting. The award-winning casino spreads for more than 28,000 square feet and is teeming with all the latest games. Slots include denominations from nickel to $5 reels. Also featured are five-cent and 25-cent keno machines and video poker in denominations ranging from five cents to $5. In addition to the floor games, video poker can be found at the casino bar. Table games include Blackjack, Craps, Baccarat, Roulette, Caribbean Stud poker, and poker.
The hotel rooms here might be the biggest in downtown Las Vegas. They are not as ornately designed as the casino (perhaps a good thing), but they are clean and tastefully presented. Room amenities include a Nintendo game system and free movies. Light sleepers should know that the north side faces the freeway and railroad tracks and tends to get a bit noisy, as opposed to the quieter south side.
In addition to the resort's appealing amenities, Main Street Station is known for good food and drink. Beer enthusiasts will love visiting the casino's own microbrewery, the 777 (Triple Seven) Microbrew Pub and Grill. The frosty cold goodness ranges from auburn ales to dark stouts, and the setting is a refreshing break from that of the chiming casino, with wood-paneled walls and a brass-rail bar. Furthermore, the Main Street Station Garden Court buffet is one of the best buffets in the downtown area, with the possible exception of the Golden Nugget's Sunday brunch. There are numerous food stations where the food is individually prepared to your liking. You can't do better for the money.
