Like many of the other casinos in town, the Barbary Coast is designed in a style reminiscent of turn-of-the-century San Francisco. Some of the casinos like Main Street Station have done this style better, but none seem to match the casual, worn-in charm of the Barbary Coast.
The casino is adorned with stained glass windows and signs valued at over $2 million, while crystal chandeliers sparkle from above the gaming tables. This elegant setting breeds comfort and invites visitors to stay, if only for just a few hands of cards. The hotel offers 200 rooms on three floors, charmingly designed with a Victorian motif, complete with half-canopied beds, gaslight-style lamps, and lace curtains. Every room has a small sitting parlor for vanity hounds.
In addition to a friendly atmosphere, the Barbary Coast casino features more than 650 slot machines and a variety of table games offering low limits. The Barbary Coast is a hotel-casino that caters toward the more serious gambler. There is no pool and no shows, save the live music of the lounge.
The Barbary Coast is home to the world's largest stained glass mural, an oak-carved and stained-glass scene depicting "The Garden of Earthly Delights." The artwork measures 30 feet long and five feet high; it took more than 8,000 hours to complete.
Dining choices include Michael's, an intimate atmosphere open only for dinner; the upscale Drai's restaurant; and the Victorian Room, open 24 hours.
